“Do not be satisfied with stories, how things have gone with others. Unfold your own myth.”- Rumi
Today, we come together with a fresh slate and a wide-open road before us. We write as a tool to heal and for the gift of sharing our experience. In this space, we share our myths with each other and find healing in expressing ourselves – scribblings our souls on the page and giving voice to the words when we need them. We are warrior-women, s-heroes in our shared experience, yet we have all taken different journeys.
I’d like to go on a journey with you all to discover healing through writing and storytelling. Cultures and religions all over the world use writing and storytelling to impart wisdom and moral lessons. Remember Aesop’s Fables and the fairy tales collected by the Brothers Grimm? The stories shared by Jesus? The tales of the Odyssey? Siddhartha by Herman Hesse? Stories and myths impart moral lessons and guide our unconscious understanding of ourselves and our relationships with others. In the coming months, how will we shape our myths? What will you courageously face and share with the page?
Prompt 1: What myth you are living? Complete the following:
Once upon a time…
And every day…
Prompt 2: What topics do you want to write about in the coming new year? Please share so we can create our outline for next year’s sessions.
